Trouble hearing student recordings

Modified on Wed, Sep 25 at 5:36 PM

Recordings submitted by students for sight-reading exercises can sometimes be hard to hear. Below are solutions to some common problems.

If a student recording seems to cut off early, it could indicate that students are listening to the metronome over a Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth causes a slight delay in audio playback, which in turn will cause the student performance to be delayed. When the "Metronome" or "Note Cursor" option is enabled in sight-reading exercises, the recording automatically turns off after the metronome or cursor has reached the end of the example: with Bluetooth, this can clip the end of a student's performance. Please ask students to refrain from using Bluetooth to complete sight-reading exercises.

If a student recording is too quiet or too muffled, this is likely the result of the student's system microphone or the interference of noise their environment. We recommend that students record in a quite space indoors. Before submitting their recording, students should always play it back once to be sure that their solution is audible.
