Artusi in Canvas

If your school set up Artusi in Canvas before fall 2026, see the Canvas LTI 1.1 (legacy) folder instead. That setup used a consumer key and shared secret, and it continues to work. To move to the current method, ask your Canvas administrator to request a registration link from support@artusimusic.com and follow section 1 below.

1. Register Artusi (Canvas administrator, once)

You need the registration link from Artusi support. See Start here for how to get one.

1. In Canvas, open Admin, choose your account, then Developer Keys.
2. Click + Developer Key and choose + LTI Registration.
3. Paste the Artusi registration link into the box and click Continue. Artusi’s registration page opens inside Canvas and completes on its own.
4. When it finishes, review the permissions Canvas shows and click Enable and Close.
5. In the Developer Keys list, set the new Artusi key’s State to ON.
6. Copy the key’s Client ID (the long number in the Details column).
7. Open Admin, Settings, Apps, then + App. Set Configuration Type to By Client ID, paste the Client ID, and click Submit, then Install.

Artusi now appears as an external tool in every course under this account. You do not need to repeat this for individual courses.

If the registration page reports that Artusi is already registered, someone at your school has done this step. Do not register again.

2. Add an Artusi assignment (instructor, once per assignment)

Each Canvas assignment is linked to one Artusi assignment. You need both, and either can already exist.

On Artusi: use an assignment you already have, or create one. This video shows how.

In Canvas: use an existing assignment or create a new one. Either way, open its settings and check:

1. Submission Type is External Tool, with Artusi chosen under Find. On an existing assignment, changing the submission type keeps its name, points, due date, and gradebook column.
2. Load This Tool In A New Tab is checked. This is required: Artusi must not run inside a frame on the Canvas page, or browsers block its login. See Third-party cookies.
3. The assignment is saved and published.

Now link it to the Artusi assignment:

1. Click the assignment in Canvas, then the launch button.
2. The first time from this Canvas course, Artusi asks which Artusi course it belongs to. Pick one. Each Canvas course links to one Artusi course, so if you teach several sections in Canvas, make a separate Artusi course for each.
3. Artusi shows the assignments in that course. Pick the one this Canvas assignment should open.

That is all. Students who click the Canvas assignment now land on the Artusi assignment, signed in.

3. Grades

Scores appear in the Canvas gradebook column for the assignment, scaled to the points you set in section 2. For more information, see How Artusi sends grades to your LMS.

4. Troubleshooting

Artusi is not in the Find list. Your administrator has not finished section 1, or installed the app in a different account than your course’s.
