Artusi in Moodle

1. Register Artusi (Moodle administrator, once)

You need the registration link from Artusi support. See Start here for how to get one.

  1. Open Site administration, then Plugins, then Activity modules, then External tool, then Manage tools.
  2. Paste the Artusi registration link into the Tool URL box and click Add LTI Advantage.
  3. Artusi’s registration page opens and completes on its own. When it says registration is complete, close it if it does not close itself.
  4. Artusi now appears in the tools list as Pending. Click Activate.
  5. Open the tool’s settings and confirm Tool configuration usage is Show in activity chooser and as a preconfigured tool, and that under Privacy, Share launcher’s name with tool and Share launcher’s email with tool are both Always. Under Services, confirm IMS LTI Assignment and Grade Services is set to Use this service for grade sync and column management.
  6. Set Default launch container to New window. Artusi must not run inside a frame on the Moodle page, or browsers block its login. This default applies to every activity instructors create.
  7. Save.

Artusi is now available in every course on the site.

2. Add an Artusi assignment (instructor, once per assignment)

Each Moodle activity is linked to one Artusi assignment.

On Artusi: use an assignment you already have, or create one. This video shows how.

In Moodle, add a new activity for it:

  1. Turn editing on and click Add an activity or resource in the section where the assignment belongs.
  2. Choose Artusi if it is listed, otherwise choose External tool and set Preconfigured tool to Artusi.
  3. Give it a name.
  4. Under Launch container, confirm New window is selected. Artusi must not run inside a frame, or browsers block its login.
  5. Under Grade, set the maximum grade. Moodle creates the gradebook column for you.
  6. Save.

Now link it to the Artusi assignment:

  1. Click the activity. Artusi opens in a new window.
  2. The first time from this Moodle course, Artusi asks which Artusi course it belongs to. Pick one. Each Moodle course links to one Artusi course, so if you teach several sections, make a separate Artusi course for each.
  3. Artusi shows the assignments in that course. Pick the one this activity should open.

Students who click the activity now land on the Artusi assignment, signed in.

3. Grades

Scores appear in the gradebook column Moodle created for the activity. For more information, see How Artusi sends grades to your LMS.

4. Troubleshooting

Artusi is not in the activity chooser or the preconfigured tool list. The administrator has not activated the tool, or set its usage to hide it. Ask them to check section 1.

Artusi says your school did not send an email address. The tool’s Privacy settings do not share the launcher’s email. Ask your administrator to check section 1, step 5.

Grades never appear, and the activity has no gradebook column. The activity’s maximum grade is set to none, or the tool’s Assignment and Grade Services setting is off. Check section 2, step 5, then ask your administrator about section 1, step 5. For other causes, see Common problems in any LMS.
