How Artusi sends grades to your LMS

Artusi automatically sends scores to your LMS gradebook as students complete work. This page explains the process in detail.

What is sent

Every score is sent as a percentage. Your LMS scales it to the points or maximum you set on the assignment. A student who scores 8 of 10 in Artusi is sent as 80, and a 25-point LMS column shows 20.

Multiple attempts

If the assignment allows more than one attempt, Artusi sends the score from the student’s highest-scoring attempt. Lower attempts are never sent, and a later, lower attempt never replaces a higher score already in the gradebook.

Artusi cannot see attempt limits you set in your LMS. Whether a student can try again is decided entirely by the Artusi assignment’s settings. If you want a single attempt, set it up in Artusi. For example, set the assignment’s question randomness to Everyone gets the same questions.

Any attempt limit you set in the LMS applies only to how many times the student can click the launch link, which is not the same thing.

When grades are sent

Artusi sends grades in a batch once an hour. A score can take up to an hour to appear after Artusi decides it is ready to send.

When Artusi decides a score is ready depends on the assignment’s feedback setting:

• Feedback on (the default for worksheets, practice exercises, and textbook chapters): the score is sent as the student works, and updated on later batches as it changes.
• Feedback off: the score is sent only after the assignment closes. An assignment closes when its time limit runs out, its due date passes, or a student manually closes it.

The submission time in your LMS

The date your LMS shows for a submission is the time Artusi sent the grade, not the time the student finished. A student who finishes on time may show a submission time an hour later, or after the due date. The Artusi gradebook shows when the student actually worked.

What stops a grade from being sent

• The student opened Artusi directly, from the Artusi website, rather than from the LMS. Artusi only knows which LMS gradebook a score belongs to when the student arrives through the LMS link.
• The LMS assignment has no gradebook column. Canvas and Moodle create one automatically. Brightspace and Blackboard need you to attach or create one. See your LMS’s guide.
• The instructor has not linked the LMS assignment to an Artusi assignment. Students see “This assignment is not ready yet” until then.

Due dates and extensions

Due dates are not shared between Artusi and your LMS. Set them in both places. If you extend a deadline in Artusi after the LMS due date has passed, the LMS may flag the grade as late when it arrives, or you may need to enter it by hand.
